IronOak studios forums > General Discussion > Brainbread Source Team Needed!

QUOTE (Zpin)

Our offer still exists. If anyone assembles a team and works on a BB source port that fits our quality standard we'll give them admin rights for the BB site and a forums section. Additionally we would promote the mod using our existing PR connections and contact Valve for possible official support. This new team could also get a share of the advertisement income. We give you full permission to use the official Brainbread-content and materials. You could create a game with good reputation! The only condition is, that we (IronOak) have the right to influence and support that mod as official mod leaders (next to the official team leaders of the new BB mod team). Perhaps we'll even merge the teams for further projects... everything is possible! wink.gif

You're free to post if you want to discuss about that.

PS.: And don't be afraid! We don't expect a first alpha with the same quality as the current BB version! Every (simple) attempt to create a BB:S will be respected!

Wow.
That's some heavy backfire.
The hoax... changed... into a real project...

I'm still learning xhtml//css coding (Know most of the theorical knowledge, just need some experience with it), and a true, fully-coded website would be better.
I'm learning php too, but I'm still a noob ^^

I'll try to code a little page with death_dealer's design.

For the models, I'll suggest we let Civie handle this ^^
Death_dealer could skin them.
(Don't take this as an offence death, but I think you're better at 2d design; Your web design and re-skinning are great, but civie is one hell of a modeller biggrin.gif)

Sc could take the screenshots, since he's soooo skilled at it biggrin.gif

and also, I may, MAY code the mod.
I'm learning c and c++ now, but I'm far away from creating a hl˛ mod ^^
don't expect any coding from me until... a year biggrin.gif

So, all we need now :

-Coders !!1111!!!11
-Mappers !!111!!11 (Could be one of them since I know hl1 mapping, but hl˛...)(I would want Shoot_me to map for us, but he doesn't map for hl˛ ^^ damn.)
-2d // 3d artists
-John Carmack

Can't think of anything else... tell me if something's missing.

Hah! I knew it! You need a big hoax to start up a REAL project. Should I apply as a mapper?

Positives:

-I'd get some credit.
-It'd be really cool.

Negatives:

-Warning level is already raised.
-I might be maimed.
-Admins might say NO and then shoot me.

So much to think about! blink.gif

yayyyy !!

If luciel could take some spare time to build the site,it would rock.
I'm forgetting html now i'm learning c++ as fast as possible to begin modding the source code :/
We would need a real coder...

What we have now :
-Modeler : Civie
-2d artist/skinner : Death
-Webmaster : Luciel (?)
-Betatesters : More than enough.
-Mapper : Keyes (?)

btw, I got an idea for the main song : Bb's main song, played with a guitar (That would rock), but we need someone who plays guitar well...

EDIT : To Ironoak : Where did you guys learned coding, mapping... ? That could help us.

I have tried everything to fix it.

I'd like to co apply for website design, although i'm not an expert i've learnt alot and could maybe put together some ideas with Death Dealer? www.morbrid.co.uk <-- my site havn't been botherd to update it so it's still poor. I'll restart my mapping and see what I can cobble together.

Sorry if this position has been filled but I would like to apply as either a team organizationalist. Here is a bit about me.
Name: Chris
AIM: Spieler310
Languages: German and English
Age: 15
Location: Sarasota, Florida
Misc: I am a Florida native and I am bilingual in German and English. I have a lot of team leadership experience, as I am captain of a local paintball team and am currently attending a military academy. I have more beta testing experience than anything else as I cannot model/skin at all, though I used to be able to map a little bit, but that was 3 or 4 years ago. I have beta tested the following games/mods:
1. Tour of Duty - HL1 mod
2. Planetside - SOE
3. World of Warcraft - Blizzard?
4. Star Wars Galaxies - SOE
5. Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed - SOE
6. Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees - SOE
7. Star Wars Galaxies: Trials of Obi Wan - SOE
8. Rocket Crowbar 1 - HL1 Mod
9. Rocket Crowbar 2 - HL1 Mod
10. Cessena Fun - Operation Flashpoint Mod
11. Face of Mankind - Duplex Systems
12. Everquest 2 - SOE
13. Matrix Online - SOE (Formerly Monolith Productions - SOE bought them)
14. Operation Flashpoint
15. Operation Flashpoint: Resistance

Why I want to Join: I am a fan of Brain Bread. About a year or so ago, I was looking around for HL zombie mods, and after disliking the Resident Evil one that was already out, I was about to give up when I found Brain Bread. I liked it very much and stuck with it ever since.

Why I would be a good candidate: I have leadership experience and am very keen to finding exploits, bugs, and other types of glitches.

The only thing I can think of after reading the front page where it said may be completed in 2007 or 2008, in 2008 I will be joining the National Guard, though it shouldn't interfere. Thanks!
- Chris

Hey peoples!!! I'd like to apply as a modeller, mapper, beta tester (storyboard too if anyone wants some lame zombie scenario written for their map(s). I've had 7 years experience beta testing Micro Forte games (Fallout Tactics anyone & Enemy Infestation). My modelling and map making experience (with source anyway) is quite limited, but I'm already at work mapping out basic fgd's without any entities using hl2:dm as a base for brainbread maps.

Anyone interested?

Hello guys,

I would happily lend a hand as a story writer or basic mapper however my skills end there when it comes to 'mod creation.'

I used to write stories in the BB world following fictional police forces and such. Here is a link to one such story:

http://www.ironoak.ch/forums/index.php?showtopic=2960&st=0

I would very much like to become part of this team, that is if the offer is still open of course.

hehe.

I, and a friend.
(he'll register soon)

Would like to have a good say in the art direction of the Source mod. We have had small parts in our own zombie mod that failed because of my failure to adapt to the source engine.

We only wish to give our tastes of what we know a consumer would want in a zombie mod; and also try drawings.

I; am a zombie nut. I have seen about 19 zombie films. All of the major films, by George Romero; and all their remakes. And third party zombie-ish movies.

I out of the teaming of me and him; will focus on the concept. He is talented as an artist (and another friend is EXTREMELY talented in Photoshop) and will be able to create these.

So far we have about 5 really good map rough sketch map designs. And a few zombie models.

I'll scan them by tonight and release them soon after he registers.

I just want to say that Brainbread has remained to be my favorite HL mod; and I'd much like to see a larger community playing the HL2 version.

(let me post our scans before casting a judgement)

We'd love to be a huge hand in Concept Art.

Contact Me:

I guess it's not very much, but I could do a few scetches. I'm prettty good on drawing things (I have improved, you see!) so I could make basic concepts.
But no Photoshop, sorry.

I'm 15
my name is Henrik
I'm Norwegian
Some previous work is in the fan section...but I'm drawing better now tongue.gif
and my damn mouse has decided to quit on me, it won't work properly.

Updates-

(to sum it up, we'd like to apply for 2d Art and Concept Art)

Shadow Fighter is the Artist who draws everything of which I am about to show you. Me and him made these in a Study Hall period a year ago. I think we've gotten a bit better. I found them just as soon as I read that IronOak was grouping together a Source Team.
We have about 7 other drawings; alot of Zombie Characters (which are so Awesome) but sadly, I can't find them.

These are very very very very very ROUGH drawings. These were made a year ago, and in a hurry.

I hope you enjoy. They're pencil, and just sketches.

If we are given 1-2 weeks on a single drawing we can go into Photoshop and turn it
into SHEER gold.

We are perfectly capable of producing amazing Zombie Art, as we have seen about every single Zombie Flick.

Ok. Shadowfighter is working on a new Zombie Character a day. And spending an hour each on them. Really high quality.

After I get 5 i'll get another friend to process them in Photoshop and I think you'll be pleasantly suprised.

-Update
I guess i just wanna say that me and Shadow are completely devoted to everything Zombie.

Also the stuff we've posted are two years old, and the recent stuff were just really really really ROUGH sketches.

Okay.

No art is "done" persay.
But. I happened to steal some from Shadow Fighter's desk while I was at his house 2 days ago.

I also found a zombie character guy my sister drew 1 and 1/2 years ago. (marked with *)

Enjoy'

http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/5277/zombiemidget9os.jpg

http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/5315/scruffymczombie3fk.jpg

http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/2452/michael2ht.jpg*

This one I found under his bed. It's all the zombie movies we had seen in 8th grade. about a year ago. Maybe just half a year.

http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/1998/zombiemoviez2tw.jpg

But yeah. We just love zombies. They're part of our life. We both play Urban Dead, and have read
Max Brook's The Zombie Survival Guide
and are more than well read in the Zombie Universe.

Just give us some time, and we can get better work.
My sister; who has been taking art classes for 3-4 years and does incredible anime drawings; has agreed to do some drawings. Which Should easily come really close to SickJoe's stuff at Nomoreroominhell.com

She's also been using Photoshop for about 2 years, and so she can edit.

ShadowFighter; who most of the works of his I have posted are just at 2 years old, is the one who has watched all the films with me. Just the 2 new ones I posted right now were made this month. And i found those in his room, so I have no idea how old they are.

But we'd really like to be a part in providing concept art for BrainBread: Source. We can stick to a particular design theme for the BrainBread mood, and we're very flexible.

Posted by: Luciel February 06, 2006 12:09 pm
Yeah, i can find some time to do the site, i could use death dealers site graphics as a base and make it into a php based site. Also, for the ones that remember the bbmix track, what you think if i make the soundtrack?

Coder reporting for duty!

I was gonna hold off untill I had more stuff done, but basically my time will be stretched over the next couple of days sad.gif

http://ben.gaming-resources.com/

FYI: It's currently in debug mode, so if you get assert warnings just click "ignore all asserts"

You guys probably won't see alot of "stuff" actually happening, but alot of the behind the scenes work has been done, so turning into a zombie(you will change into a rebel) and turning back(kill somebody 3 times) has been done. Also the points system is done, that is all behind the scenes "stuff" that you wont see(getting points from killing zombies)

And good ol' capture objects are "sort of" working(they are pretty buggy at the moment but no time to do anything with them)

No VGUI work has been done, so you can't spend your points(not that you would be able todo anyway because I have not done that, but thats going to be quite easy IMO)

The army would work, but the way HL2DM has animations setup means that I cant just drop an NPC combine into a map and it will work, but again I think this would be quite easy to work out(I think just taking a Pmodel from CS: S would work best)

Fred isnt done, but he would be super easy todo(just a mega zombie)

And kill a set number of zombies isnt done(easy again, just add a global int and increment it when a zombie is done)

Just rember guys and gals, this is only about 3 days worth of work, so there are going to be problems(some biggies around capture_objects)

Although I am a newbie to these forums I have been playing BB for a long time and loving it, and I just wanna give something back to you guys.

Also I am requesting to be the leader.

Hmm... all i see is a box room with a pickup and a hl zomby, nothing "new" that i could figure out? blink.gif

Posted by: ^Ben February 07, 2006 09:36 pm
Well if you get hit by the zombie you get turned into a zombie(currently a rebel)

And if you pick up the package(just like the suit case in BB) and take it to the trigger(currently the middle of the room) it will get taken off of you, and if would start up another mission.

If you wan't me to explain some more of it, I would be happy to play you over the internet.

Are you going to create forums for the BB: Source Project yet, MadMax?

Posted by: Zpin February 08, 2006 05:21 pm
@mtg: they look nice... more comic, rather than scary, though.

Posted by: ^Ben February 08, 2006 06:56 pm
Army is gonna take a bit, the AI itself is easy peasy, but getting the animations to work is teeeeeedious!

Also got capture zones working.

Once I get Fred working everything will be done except the point system(VGUI is going to be the hardest part of that)

Posted by: Luciel February 09, 2006 01:50 am
looks like the modellers and skinners better get to work, ben's on a row lol tongue.gif

Posted by: ^Ben February 09, 2006 04:09 pm
There be code hacking ahead!

Fred is now working, is just a zombie with mega amounts of health.

The army issue has me stumped, The A.I. is working grea BUT what ever I try to-do the animations are screwed, so I've done a naughty hack ph34r.gif and just made the army a turret with a certain amount of health and it reloads every so often.

Weapons will probably be mostly done today and tommorow.

Ok guys, I have uploaded a completly new version that was built today.

http://ben.gaming-resources.com/

Just download that and overwrite your old files in your sourcemod directory.

To start off the mission you need to kill the far left zombie(Fred, I put him at normal health for now) and then you need to kill 20 normal zombies and then you need to take the package to the middle of the room to win(there are no notification on you winning)

And I have included the VMF and FGD if you wanted to see how I did it.

Ok so with the help of Death_Dealer getting the me right graphs, i'm doing the website, i can also do music tracks for the maps and official soundtrack if needed.

Ben is doing all the coding, amazingly fast too lol
I'm sure civie will do the modelling, so we need skinners and mappers.

Posted by: ^Ben February 09, 2006 11:08 pm
Well we should get the blessing of the original team first smile.gif

I have emailed them, but they are probably busy.

Posted by: Luciel February 09, 2006 11:15 pm
roger that !:P

Posted by: Zpin February 10, 2006 01:06 am
Keep it up guys smile.gif
We're still waiting for our PR manager to post the news on various related sites. In some days we'll start selecting the members for the BB:S team.

Spin, pick me for "The Guy Who Can't Do Anything But Pretends To Work So He Can Get His Name On The Mod" job k? Or let me beta test and I will love you long time...

Posted by: Death_Dealer February 10, 2006 03:25 am
me an Luciel are fitting my design to the new site hehe XD

Posted by: MadMax_FMM February 10, 2006 02:51 pm
Some of you will be happy to be in the team... that's for sure. wink.gif

@^Ben: Nice coding work... and really fast!

Posted by: ^Ben February 10, 2006 03:16 pm
Thanks! I'm really suprised at how fast I was able to get through the bulk of the code, can't wait to get a beta team on the code to iron out the issues.

VGUI is fun blink.gif

Posted by: MadMax_FMM February 10, 2006 03:46 pm
@^Ben: Well... i think it's not a secret anymore. You're one of the guys who are in the team. Congratulation. wink.gif

@Death_Dealer: Oh yes! You should design more zombie skins... could be useful for you (and for the biodiversity of the zombies). biggrin.gif

There's the mix i was talking about, i could clean it up and make a shorter version and maybe we could use it as the main menu sound track? also i could do individual tracks for maps if needed.

Posted by: ^Ben February 10, 2006 11:32 pm
Uploaded a new build, this has some VGUI work(basically this is me learning how to hook up VGUI with the code) if you want to bring it up it's binded to M.

Weapons are in but you currently can't get to them yet wink.gif

Is it possible for me to work as a parttime/freelance mapper/webdesigner maybe I could collaborate with other people smile.gif

Posted by: MadMax_FMM February 11, 2006 01:24 pm
@BlueSummer: The FGD file for mappers will be released to the public before the release of BB:S, so that ppl could create maps en masse! wink.gif

Posted by: ^Ben February 11, 2006 02:38 pm
Just a FYI there is a version of the .FGD, which should give you an idea of how the maps are going to be put together.

But don't rely on it, because I am going to change the descriptors and names to be more uniform.

And on another note :| My graphics card is really f*cking up, I'm currently looking at lots of sparkly colours while writing this post. So I have to see if I can send it back, I think I'll be able to code, but testing the changes is going to be super tricky(running anything 3d just locks the system)

Had to happen on my week off aswell mad.gif

Too much brains/flesh/et cetera over and over again..... and you used copyrighted stuff in it...im pretty sure they need tottally original music for it.

EDIT:

K so I downloaded your .rar Ben and tried it out but... I got these 2 errors and it locked up...

Could it have something to do with the fact I dont have an E:/ drive heh... mine is installed in C:/Program Files/Valve/Steam/Steamapps/Sourcemods

Posted by: ^Ben February 12, 2006 01:28 am
Choose "ignore all asserts" Don't worry about the drive locations, that's just telling you/me where the error in the code originated, so it would be in relation to my computer.

Also while trying to fix my graphics card I broke the sata cable! Now my E: Drive is inaccessible, and guess where all my MOD content is stored!

Just great, I get a week off that I was planning to get some serious work on BB: S and my graphics card craps itself and dies and the sata cable breaks so I can't bloody access any of my files to maybe transfer the code to a college machine and work on it from there :\

Posted by: Luciel February 12, 2006 01:42 am
Any effects can be cleaned, those where meant as a "joke part to the mix" but as you say some of the stuff even though heavily modified is copyrighted i guess.

And i also guess there's other people willing to do the site so it's up to you, i just offered my spare time to help.

Posted by: lskenny February 12, 2006 03:21 am
well I can make many little things to help in the BB:S development, I can:
Make textures/wallpapers or any kind of image in GIMP/Photoshop
I know a little of C++ programing
I know a little of modelling with blender
And if you want to change something in the story of the game I have a huge imagination to create stories
And I am a lover of fireweapons, so if you dont kno a cool weapon to put in the game feel free to ask me for some head blasting machines names

that's all smile.gif

Well. We prepared the development environment for the upcoming BB:S-Team. The BB:S staff will soon get access to these inner forums! Just be patient. wink.gif
