Perhaps the biggest shortcoming of the original BB was that on most maps, even the official ones, there were uber weapons everywhere. There was ammo everywhere. I'm not saying that it should be like Zombie Panic, but there does have to be a limit. Running around with a minigun and melting faces off every zombie you come across is fun for a while, but the Horror aspect does not come into play at all.

Therefore, I propose that in BB:S, the weapons be the following, divided into three categories:

[These are rough guidelines only]
[Examples of alternative weapon choices have been provided]

Freely Available:

Axe - Melee weapon. Used to chop zombies' heads.
Alternatives: Baseball Bat, Lead Pipe

Magnum - Your head asplode. Slow to fire, slow to reload, and powerful recoil, but extremely powerful.

Sawed-off Shotgun - Demolition Man, anyone? Fires 2 shells with a wide spread, then has to reload.

.22LR Hunting / Sport Rifle - Winchester-ish. Can take down zombies reliably with a headshot, and is accurate, but otherwise lacks power. Wooden stock can be used as a weapon.

Flamethrower - Throws Flames. To be constructed, you need a kerosene tank, a pressure-washer unit, and other such paraphernalia.

Fertilizer Bomb - Used to make a big boom. You need a bag of fertilizer, a blasting cap, some kind of a detonator, and so on.

Chainsaw - Think of a fully-automatic melee weapon. Too bad the one we found needs a new spark plug, and is out of gas.

The premise of these weapons is that Civilians gain access to them right away, usually at map start. They are powerful weapons against small numbers, but not great against a zerg rush. The last 3 are hard to assemble, but powerful once you have it all together. Not something you'd get at the start of the game.

-----------

Police-Grade:

Taser - A Melee weapon that will drop a zombie instantly, regardless of where you hit it. If you can't destroy the brain, at least stop it from sending signals for a while.

Glock 17 - Standard-issue police sidearm. 9x19mm can take a zombie down in a couple of headshots, but otherwise lacks power.
Alternatives: Beretta 92F, Five-Seven, P228

Remington 870 - Standard-issue police shotgun. Pump-action, blows away limbs. Wooden stock can be used as a weapon.
Alternatives - Benelli Nova, Mossberg 500

MP5A4 - SWAT-issue police SMG. Rapid and accurate 9x19mm fire.
Alternatives - UMP, MP7, P90, TMP/MP9, Uzi (full size)

Accuracy International AE - Police Sharpshooters' weapon of choice. Basically a cheaper, law-enforcement model of the infamous Arctic Warfare Magnum.
Alternatives - Remington 700 Police, TRG-22, Sig 3000

Ingram Mac-10 - Sitting in police evidence lockers by the dozen. Confiscated from local gangsters. Medium-powered, high-fire rate, high-recoil, low-accuracy SMG.

AK47 - Sitting in police evidence lockers in some of the more crime-infested areas. Confiscated from local gangsters. High-powered, medium-fire rate, high-recoil, low-accuracy assault rifle. Heavy wooden stock can be used as a weapon.

Tear Gas Grenades - Firing Tear Gas into an area will assault the senses of anything (including zombies) there, disorienting and confusing them. They must then rely on hearing, which can be circumvented by players' sneaking. Good for bypassing an area with a massive zombie horde.

These weapons are not as freely available, but most law-enforcement types will have these around.

-----------

Military Grade:

SOCOM MK23 - Military & Special Ops issue sidearm. More powerful and accurate than the police sidearms.
Alternatives: USP, Glock 20, MP7 (Full-Auto SMG in the Pistol slot!)

Benelli M3 - Standard military shotgun. Can be fired on pump or semi-auto.
Alternatives: SPAS-12, Benelli M4 Super 90, SPAS-15 (Reloads with a magazine)

M4A1 - Standard military assault rifle. 5.56x45mm is an accurate round which has surprising stopping power due to its fragmentation inside the target. Metal stock can be used as a weapon. Has an attached grenade launcher. Lower recoil than the AK.
Alternatives: F2000, Steyr-AUG, Tavor-21, AK74

M249 SAW - Crowd control, anyone? Fires 5.56, but 200 at a time.
Alternatives: RPK, PKM, Negev,

Frag Grenades - Pull the pin, throw. Boom. Simple.

Nerve Gas Grenades - Similar to above, except the gas cloud wil remain deadly for a longer period of time. Again, if you can't destroy the brain, you can stop the brain/spinal cord transmissions. These can be absorbed from the air through contact, so the victim doesn't necessarily have to be breathing.

Barrett M82A1 - Sniper Supreme. Put a huge .50 caliber hole in your target, and everything behind it.

These weapons are NOT available to non-military units. The only way to get them is if/when military intervention arrives in your area. Plus, I doubt that your local gun store sells grenades or .50BMG rounds or 5.56mm in 200-round boxes.

-----------

A cool realism touch could be achieved by using "regional" weapons skins, for example:

USA:
Beretta
M4A1
SPAS-12
M249

Russia:
Tokarev
AK74
Saiga-12K
RPK

Germany:
USP
G36C
SPAS-12
MG36

-----------

Discuss.

Now that I will agree with. Nice set of guidelines!

I think the chainsaw should already be fueled and ready to go. Too much of the civilian weaponry has to be assembled. THe flamethrower and bomb I understand, but not the chainsaw. Don't make it too hard to do things.

Posted by: EcheloN September 04, 2006 10:35 pm
Things like the flamethrower or chainsaw would make the game into ezmode, the point is that they are supposed to be hard to obtain.

Posted by: QReaper September 05, 2006 12:36 am
How about if it's not possible to store it in the inventory, and if you leave it on it runs out of gas quickly.

There will be no Chainsaws in BBS. wink.gif

We already got fire axes...

haha, will the fire axe be blue?

most "police grade" weapons are readily available to the public

Posted by: EcheloN September 10, 2006 01:12 am
Some countries have stricter gun control laws, or weapons are just not as freely available.

Then again a zombie outbreak in Switzerland or Israel would be over in like 2 seconds.

Posted by: Hysterically Depressed September 10, 2006 04:26 am
thats a really good idea... what about a zombie outbreak.. in other countries?... sorry a little off topic.. but you really got me thinking

Posted by: iliketoblowzombieheadsoff September 10, 2006 05:16 am
Police weapons are cool, i mostly like the MP5. Its TEH TACTICALzzz biggrin.gif

And, yeah i agree with echelon. Israel would end a zombie outbreak in a short period of time

Posted by: Security Corporate September 10, 2006 08:55 am

Why would be over fast in Switz or Israel? Especially in Switz...

Posted by: Hysterically Depressed September 10, 2006 09:20 am
well think about it... we always think of a zombie outbreak happening in North American Countries... what about.. like.. different countries.. like a zombie outbreak in Japan! Or... Africa!...Like.. jeez, I have a great idea coming to me for a mod...which will never be done of course... I think..

Posted by: Elite viking September 10, 2006 12:36 pm
zombie outbreak in the Vatican! All the tourists become zombies, and it's up to the swiss guards in their silly suits to save the day!
The guards would probly win. They only accept people in supermen-ish state to become guards, so even one swiss alone would pwn a heckload of zombies.

Israel is a rather small country with a hooge army, so I think zombies would lose. I don't know about swiss, but they make Fabrique Nationale weapons. will that be enough?

Find out...on Zombie outbreak: Europe. Coming soon.

In Switzerland, there is compulsory military service, so many adult males have an assault rifle and knows how to use it. They keep their rifles, as well as 50 rounds of ammunition, within their homes.

At the outbreak of World War II, Switzerland performed its 3rd and most recent Full Mobilization, calling up 500,000 soldiers within 3 days. Today, the Swiss state has about 1.5 million military-aged and able-bodied men, which, it is claimed, can be mobilized and ready within 12 hours.

There is also infrastructure such as militia depots, bomb shelters, etc. designed to defend from a conventional invasion. There are bunkers and fortresses in the mountains which are certainly stocked with food, water, and ammunition.

Posted by: Security Corporate September 11, 2006 07:26 am

Nice...

I do remember Hitler's troops getting pwned by Swiss snipers when they tried to cross the border and the alps.

Seriously. You do not want to break in someones house there. If you dont get shot up by the resident, you'll get shot up by the neighbors. <-- Assumption based on Echelon's description of Swiss defenses. blubbern.gif

note to self.. don't rob from people that are swiss...

Posted by: EcheloN September 12, 2006 02:59 am
Yeah, apparently they are issued a Sig-550 rifle with 50 rounds of ammunition in a container, in case they are attacked while en route to the nearest militia base.

Compare that to a place like Britain where the cops dont even have guns.

Posted by: Hysterically Depressed September 12, 2006 06:02 am
"Watch out that cop has a retractable rod!".. and no don't get wrong thoughts

and those hurt likes bitches too

How pwnage are the swiss guards?

Posted by: EcheloN September 13, 2006 03:31 pm
They are f*cking pwnage, except for the highly comedic costumes they have to wear. Of course, only the ceremonial guard use that, the rest use "normal" tactical gear and assault rifles.

Posted by: Security Corporate September 14, 2006 12:17 am

Like I said. In World War two, Hitler's army far outnumbered the Swiss guards. Even then, the Nazis couldn't get 10 feet passed the border without getting shot in the face. Pwnage!

Posted by: Hysterically Depressed September 16, 2006 04:49 am
Haha, I would love it if the swiss went "BOOM HEADSHOT" everytime they got a nazi

BB:S should have more human support than grunts.
They should put in armed civillians and assasinators, assasins that supports the grunts and are in the same page: RESCUING SURVIVORS.

Id really like to see a nice assassin. really.

Posted by: Hysterically Depressed September 18, 2006 05:35 pm
careful though, we don't want to turn BB:S from a zombie shooter to a just a shooter with some zombies thrown in

Posted by: EcheloN September 21, 2006 11:53 pm
I think human enemies would not be as prolific as zombies, or even grunts. They would be in special areas, either guarding an objective, or their elimination IS an objective.

Posted by: Hysterically Depressed September 22, 2006 02:38 am
they should make it.. that there isn't human enemies.. it's a good idea... but not for a zombie mod...

Posted by: QReaper September 22, 2006 03:42 am
A couple smart enemies here and there couldn't hurt. But keep them to a minimum. cool.gif

Posted by: Hysterically Depressed September 24, 2006 04:15 am
eh... but people would have to be on guard from both close combat and range combat... That means, the feeling of a zombie game.. like the feeling that your safe.. from a distance... is gone

Posted by: Security Corporate September 24, 2006 08:28 am

No one is ever safe from zombies. Safe is only temporary in the world of zombies. Unless you live in the International Space Station of course. You'll just die of starvation or lack of oxygen that's all. Wait...

Someone should do a map of the International Space Station, and stick zombies in it. Only make the ISS more complete, bigger, and gravity bound. If it's like the one we have now, the map would be better fit for ZP. So make it so that the year is 2050 or something.

Plus, I doubt that your local gun store sells grenades or .50BMG rounds or 5.56mm in 200-round boxes.

You're a bit wrong in this, I don't know where you live, but in Finland (in local gunstore too) they DO sell 5.56:s in 500-round boxes for example. .50BMG-rifles are also sold here and are legal but very rare and the ammo is so fucking expensive, as there's hardly any practical use for such a huge rifle

But not grenades of course laugh.gif

But you could always make IED's (Improvised Explosive Device). Everything doesn't have to come from a gun shop or armory.

Speaking of which, if one map had a National Guard armory or something, the player could ransack it for military grade weapons! Plus grenades too.

Woops, i just remembered those were 7.62x39 in 500-round boxes not 5.56, but still.

Posted by: EcheloN October 01, 2006 01:00 am
I meant do they sell them in chains, inside the boxes (that M249's are loaded from), basically ready to put into your SAW and fire? The implication is that there's a bit of work to do, not just grabbing some 5.56 and expecting it to place itself inside the mag for you...

Posted by: Hysterically Depressed October 01, 2006 06:28 am
I ussually don't check on ammunition, so I guess I'm out of this conversation

Posted by: Security Corporate October 01, 2006 10:54 am

Really? I'm so into the game I make sure I have enough ammo before going into a fight. I'm really crazy about ammo conservation and things like that. Also, I make sure I have an even amount of ammo. Like for the berreta in BB, if i have 20 bullets, I'd shoot the 2 extra off just to have an even 18 and uneven spare amount of bullets. It's either a whole clip or nothing for me. I only do this for handguns though, not automatics, unless the extra bullets only amount to less than 10, then I'll discard or shoot off the extra.

And I spent a long time explaining something that really wasn't important at all. Yay!

Posted by: Hysterically Depressed October 01, 2006 04:41 pm
nooo, I meant In real life.. I don't care about ammunition

Double post and another bump! Whoo! Yer on a role now man.

Things not to do on these forums!

1- Double posting and triple posting and so on.
2- Bumping thread more than a month old.
3- Spamming.

Really, watch out next time.

I agre with EcheloN list like levels such as SWAT and police and so on I also think it would be a good idea to have addons to some of the weapons . like this http://www.aceros-de-hispania.com/image/gamo-pistols/pistol-co2-pt80-laser.jpg or a handgun with a flashlight build on it so when you doing a mission are your in the dark you can see not like BB the old one where you couldnt see in parts of the game

i just want to go back to the different country thing again... if you wanna make a funny lvl make one in london with the funny looking police officers and the royal guards with the big fuzzy hats... lol... but i guess that would be too funny and it wouldnt be much of a zombie game anymore it would be a joke

Posted by: Tanker March 17, 2007 10:03 pm
srry for double posting but i want to say this... a london lvl would actualy be a half good idea... it would be really tough though since in england you cant have guns. it would be like a all melee weapon lvl... in fact it reminds me of the movie 28 days later... that was a good movie

Posted by: mrmicky March 18, 2007 12:35 am
agreed 28 days later is amazing, but you seem too have the wrong idea about england/britain. alot of people in the london area would as i am told have guns not for protection but for shooting people to get on the news, so guns + london = a must have.

Posted by: Tanker March 18, 2007 01:02 am
im from england. the police officers dont even have guns. why do you think in 28 days later they used a machette and a baseball bat? there are no guns. its very rare that there are actually any crimes committed with guns most the time its with knifes or something like that. though thats not to say its impossible to get guns

Posted by: mallic March 18, 2007 05:12 pm
lol god bless america the one place where guns are everywhere

Posted by: Tanker March 18, 2007 05:17 pm
HELLZ YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Dobedo April 04, 2007 08:04 pm
Heh, I never saw the maps having too much weapons. Personally, in Texas almost everybody I live around owns a big gun. Myself, got two AR-15's, Mossberg twelve, Remington twelve, some chicken-shit over and under 4-10, a twenty guage Remington, Sig-Sauer P220, Kimber 1911A1 model, and a Beretta .22.

Seemed like a normal amount of firearms for maps based in America.
