It will do 4 years that Half-Life 2 has been released this november... Doesnt it sounds like odd to make this crazy new mod on that 'source' engine... I loved brainbread 1 , was cool, but the mod is maybe a little bit late to go out on source, doesn't you guys think so? A few third parties mod are still popular but even there... I think if you guys didn't strongly started the mod already, you could use another engine. Like crytek's engine, Real lovers of brainbread would piss in their pants to see your new mod on such engine... Well Its just an idea...

Crytek's engine is nothing compared to source - Source is incredibly mod-friendly, wheras the Crysis engine is in parts a bit more fiddley to pull stuff off, so as such the final mod would be of a low quality. On top of that, the BrainBread fanbase who own Half-Life 2 dwarfs the number of Crysis players alone...
If you're still in doubt of the source engine's graphical prowess, then you obviously don't have the game's settings turned up to full... Or you're just not looking at the screen when Counter-Strike Source starts up. It's not quite as fine as COD4, but it's pretty realistic nonetheless. -------------------- |

I have to say, source is the way to go. Not only because BB:S is ultimately just that... source, but because of the types of results you can get from modding on the source engine.
Source's graphics are still up to par, undoubtedly. And, not to mention the affilitation between BB players and Half-Life/Source community is strong. Add it up, BB is going Source. Quit the opposite, source is definitely not mod friendly compared to crysis or ut3 engine. There are reasons for using it for BB trough, as it has many of the things like zombies already in so it doesn't have to be coded completely from zero, its also not so hardware demanding not everyone's own a killer computer. And of course BB fans are hl1/hl2 player's. -------------------- Reality is for those who lack imagination!

SERIOUS ENGINE!!!
Just kidding. The Source engine is the most award winning engine. This engine obeys the laws of mass, friction, gravity and buoyancy. And the engine only need, not much memory or computer speed to keep the engine running normal. Its all about quality. Probably a computer with a Processor of Intel Pentium 4 1700MHz with a Directx 8.0 compalitible grapics card can hande it, with a little bit of Memory. 512mb will do....Just enough to keep the engine running normal. SERIOUS ENGINE!!! hehehe This post has been edited by rosend1990 on March 17, 2008 03:42 pm -------------------- Hidden somewhere in the depths of Ironoak Sewers. |

Plus I don't think rosend understands exactly what he's saying :/ It would be tricky to implement hundreds of zombies on source - if you examine the half-life 2 game maps, there are usually only a few dozen enemies on a whole map before a load section. Anyone who has tried spawning 100 NPCs in garrys mod should know it's pretty taxing on your computer :/ -------------------- |

It depends on how you code the AI(I Think). For example, you code/program some zombie with lesser behavior like walk and attack, that way, it makes the engine process on very low priority, because all the 100 zombies you spawned only do is walk and attack, thats making the engine think less. I believe it has something to do with coding/programing that makes the engine process less. *edit* Or the team could atleast create a special feature that will enhance the player vision, like minimizing the zombies graphics quality in farther distance.(just to minimize the lag) *edit* I don't think that Source Engine can support 100 zombies. Maybe 50 will do just fine.....? *edit* Then again, I think It depends on the map size. Yeah I see what you're saying now. A lot of dumbo zombies would be ok, and then perhaps only a handful of intelligent ones here and there to keep up the illusion

Yeah, and maybe a feature to shoot through walls would be helpful. Like Call Of Duty 4.

Are you shitting me? There's only 10,000 more Half-life mods than UT3/crysis mods. |

That doesn't make the engine any better. Its like saying cs 1.6 is the best game ever made because it has the biggest player count. Only few of them are even worth looking at.

My opinion on the matter - let's pretend my opinion matters - don't change engines for the fact that I don't own anything but Half-Life series for the computer.

A question i have about the Source Engine, is that... I have a Nvidia GeForce 8500 GT which is capable of playing HL2 on full settings max FPS. But i noticed in Gmod 10 when i spawned say 30 or more zombies i had a reduced frame rate from around 70 to 30/40. Is that the engine as my gcard should work fine under the conditions its put in on gmod 10.
I also noticed really reduced framerate when using the "nuke version 3", a nuke bomb that produces alot of smoke that gives me bad FPS. -------------------- Lightsaver the energy efficient Lightsabre |
