I remember PE a long time ago when it first came out. It was and still is one of the best mods out there. The detail into which everything was taken account of astounded me and I still retain some very fond memories of a few particular scenarios. What other mod allowed you to run out of ammo and whip out a pair of machine pistols? And the map with the really tall tower/elevator. Awesome mod.

Anywho, I can't remember why I left PE for sometime but when I came back steam had started (I must've taken a leave from all half-life games for a while) and PE was sadly "dead". Really, what happened? PE is too good a mod to waste! The graphics go right up there with Natural-Selection (another good mod, but a lot more popular) yet the gameplay is unlike any other team shooter. You could take a lot more bullets without dying but somehow it still was really fun.

I haven't played PE for maybe many months or more likely a year or so. I'd really love to get back into it and I plan on d/ling it later tonight. I'd really like to get the word out about this mod though. I rarely post on forums but I believe that we should be able to spread the knowledge of this mod.

Perhaps you can send a whole bunch of screenshots to planethalflife.com and a news announcement when you get the next version...or just use this version as news I donno. Perhaps even become the featured mod there. Or moddb.com maybe. But something, because this mod is absolutly too good to die.

It's great to hear the voices of players like you and motivates us to go on! The next patch of pe is almost ready, we did put a lot of work in a help system for new players. I do hope to get people play pe again by publishing and advertising this patch. So there is one thing to do for all of you: Tell everybody about pe as soon as the patch is out! smile.gif

Thanks to the whole community!

I tried Public Enemy a couple of years ago and I thought it kind of sucked. Not the game, that is. The fact that I tried to play it on my 400Mhz AMD computer with 128MB RAM and a 16MB VRAM Voodoo3 card. The framerate was terrible. I still have a crappy 56K dial-up modem connection but, after years of playing Natural Selection and Team Fortress Classic (the only ones I play currently), I've gotten used to it. As long as PE is optimized well for dial-up players, this MOD is probably just as fun as Natural Selection.

About ten months ago, I upgraded to a 2.0Ghz P4 system with 1GB RAM and a 128MB VRAM nVidia 5200 card. I just grabbed Public Enemy a week back and tried it out. The incredible graphics and gameplay stuck with me, and since I found NO PE servers through Steam (after dropping my Public Enemy 1.2 folder into my Steam copy of Half-Life) I finally decided to write and ask when the official completed 1.4 Steam patch will be available on your file download page. I'd REALLY like to give PE another chance.

I started programming PE on a 350mhz, and now even a system like your new one can get laggy with every possible performance killer option turned on wink.gif (We reached the HL Engine limits in nearly every aspect)
If you can play NS with your connection, then PE should be no problem either. I personally had more lag in NS than in PE. You'll also be able to play against bots... They're very stupid, though.
If everything works fine we'll release the patch somewhen in the next week, if not we'll post it in these forums.

You can allready download the patch preview, read the other posts in this subcategory for more information. Thanks for your interest,
Spin

Looking forward to PE 1.4. Never seen cast shadows and solar/lunar lens flares in ANY Half-Life modification other than yours. Totally freaking cool! BTW, Ed Hargrave's music is a prize list in my WinAmp music collection.

BTW, do you like my new Avatar? I've got it on two NS forums (official and Voogru's). It is the Bob death sprite from Bungie's Marathon games. While it is as old as Doom, it's the best sprite-based FPS ever made IMHO. You can even play the entire first Marathon game using the open source engine called Aleph One (which can render maps in OpenGL mode). Try out the M1A1 Special Edition for Windows (with added gameplay improvements and Aleph One included) and grab high-res textures and music here:

http://orbitalarm.bungie.org/downloads/alephone.html

There are lots of Marathon fans who would love to see it recreated in a modern engine, as Marathon Resurrection (UT) and Marathon Arena (Q3) attest, but recreating it with Blender or Crystal Space would keep it open-source and allow anyone to download and play it, just like Aleph One.

As promised I have to inform you about a short release delay due to a remaining crashbug and a missing model... We'll most probably release next monday.
